Dinner Buffet 2016 at Las Vacas Sunway Putra Mall, Kuala Lumpur
Barely open for half a year, Las Vacas’ latest addition now sits at Sunway Putra Mall. The location is perhaps new, but you might have heard of its well-known sister outlet along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. The renowned beef-inclined steakhouse, which also doubles as a deli and butchery, boasts a wealth of different cuts and meats at varying price points.
During this Ramadan festive, Las Vacas Sunway Putra Mall offers a dinner buffet from 9th June – 4th July 2016, available daily from 6.30pm – 9.30pm, featuring a special daily carvery including Halal Australian beef, New Zealand lamb, and BBQ chicken.
The carvery at Sunway Putra Mall outlet is prepared using JOSPER Charcoal Oven – Josper, which worth the value of a car (!), is an elegant combination of a grill and an oven in a single machine that adds the unique flavour of the finest embers, giving a unique texture and juiciness in all meats.
Las Vacas Sunway Putra Mall is the only outlet in the Las Vacas family that has the masterpiece Josper oven. Naturally, carvery steals the limelight for this Ramadan buffet. Take a look at the cuts below.
Check out some of the dishes available at Las Vacas’ dinner buffet at Sunway Putra Mall outlet. Pretty eye-pleasing indeed.
A pure surprise that I had during the night is Las Vacas’ French pastries selection. Well, to be frank, desserts and pastries are rarely a highlight for buffets but at Las Vacas it was exceptional. I first started to taste the pastries without having much high hopes but I was so wrong – the pastries, are heavenly made! Before I realised, I started to fill my plate with almost every pastry available at the counter – and I had to make second helping.
Las Vacas Sunway Putra Mall's dinner buffet is priced at RM80 nett (per adult) and RM40 nett (per child).
Here comes the first and lovely surprise, ladies and gentleman: Celebrity Chef Norman Musa, Europe’s leading award-winning UK based Malaysian Chef and official food ambassador for Kuala Lumpur, brings you his very special Ramadan buffet at Eccucino, Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel & Residences. This year’s Ramadan menu will feature a host of favourites and signature dishes that are traditional, with a modern twist. How lucky I am to discover Malaysian dishes with a talented Malaysian celebrity chef that has been based in United Kingdom for 21 years!
Upon arrival, I was already impressed by the restaurant interior design. The decor allows the simplistic beauty of the food to really shine. A large bright open room, pretty laid tables and sweet and warm light highlighting the dishes – making me really anxious to taste this buffet! The restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons.
While we were waiting for the hour of Iftar, I couldn’t hold my excitement and decided to have a sneak peak of the buffet. All was very impressive and this has my taste buds awaken. Through every counter, you can taste a local malay flavour with modern twist for delightful fusion dish. Even for people who are difficult with food you'll find whatever you want here.
Break fast time arrived! I decided to start with the Rendang Beef Wellington’s – it was created by Chef Norman Musa exclusively for Eccucino’s Ramadan buffet. When I first tasted it, the mix of everything just popped inside my mouth, you can enjoy the taste of the delightful rolled beef, then comes the taste of the wrapped spinach and mushrooms that are perfectly blend with the pastry. Plus, it has an amazingly-baked crust!
Star of the night – the Rendang Scotch Egg! It is a boiled egg coated with breadcrumbs. The savour of the soft boiled egg blends extraordinary good with the crispy texture of the roasted coconuts and minced chicken which is infused with authentic Rendang flavour. This adorably round-shaped fusion signature is deep fried and you can really feel the crunchy aspect of this dish. Chef Norman advises us to savour it with a salad. This is what I like about this buffet, through the boundless creativity by Chef Norman, simple ingredients could be turned into something extraordinary that just blows your mind away. After the Chef Norman’s cooking demonstration of this dish it made me realize that it’s something that I can easily cooked at home. Chef Norman will have more live cooking demonstrations during his special appearances on 14, 22, 25 and 30 June 2016.
Here comes my favourite of the night! Lemongrass Roast Chicken was created by Chef Norman for his fans to celebrate British Sunday roast but with a Malaysian flavour. The chicken was tender and accompanied with yellow sweet sauce which enhances the dish. The best way to savour it is to have it with some rice. The dish was executed perfectly, and the bright colours of the ingredients made it a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.
My curiosity peaks when I saw the lamb rack counter was packed with people. I decided to check out what was the dish: the ‘Selom’ Lamb racks. – it made me wanted to taste it immediately. Genius idea of Chef Norman to prepare the lamb rack – water parsley, mustard, and delicate cheese – to enhance the meat and give it more delightful flavours. What is so amazing about this dish is the crispiness of the lamb rack which is coated with crunchy breadcrumb that leaves a memorable taste in the mouth.
Seafood lovers will also be satisfied. Be it the seafood counter or the live cooking station, you can have a feast on oysters, crabs, clams, fish, prawns and many others.
The delight never stops! Many more dishes and tastes to discover. If I can give an advice, take small portion of lots of different dishes. Be careful there is a lot!
Eccucino has a wide selections for dessert and salad. They even have a chocolate fountain which is very rare to be included in a buffet! Some cakes and pastries are made with dark chocolate, some with sweet caramel, while others are served with fruits to enhance the dessert, giving it a refreshing feeling. Don’t forget to spot their special durian ice cream if you are here!

Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar, a reputable 5-star hotel, presents its “Selera Kampung” fare at its anchor diner: LINK – all day dining, available from 13 June to 2 July 2016.
Inspired by reminiscence and memoirs of the balik kampung exodus during the festive season, the “Selera Kampung” fare is surely a hit with almost 300 dishes and condiments to look forward to, all prepared in their traditional best.
The special fare presents an array of delish delights which include but not limited to: traditional Malay appetisers, claypot assam pedas, kawah favourites, traditional Malay kuihs and local/seasonal tropical fruits. The special highlights of the “Selera Kampung” fare to look out for will be festive wagyu beef, onsite Turkish ice-cream maker (one of the only eight makers in Malaysia!) and Malaysian favourite spiky king of fruits – durians!
This festive buffet will take up the entire space of the restaurant, even at the terrace outside – that’s going to be a huge feast – for a time of sharing and feasting with friends and family.
When I walked into the restaurant, I was amazed by the environment and the restaurant's decor. LINK, located at the Lobby Level, the restaurant exudes a warm contemporary feel with a culinary drama. The 360-seat new attitude all-day dining revolves around the interactive show kitchens displaying a sumptuous array of food, a dining concept that brings the excitement of cooking from behind the scenes to your table. High ceiling, well-lighted, large tables, spacious environment, beautiful set up, glorious space… Everything here is done to impress.
The staffs at LINK are friendly and welcoming, me and my colleagues were received with great warmth. Chef Mohd Juzaili Shah first walked us through the concept of “Selera Kampung” buffet – to bring people back to the sweet wonderful memories of kampung – and how he and his team took few months to plan and design the buffet menu and finally, presents it during Ramadan period.
What left me with a great impression in this buffet was the effort made on the presentation and decoration. It was so nice that I didn’t dare to serve myself thinking that I might destroy the work in the process.
From the appearance,Masak Lemak Cili Padi Siput Sedutreminds me of escargot in garlic butter, a dish usually served at my home in France. In France, when cooked, snails are prepared with garlic and parsley butter, added for seasoning and they are normally served in their own shell, as starter. Escargot is an intriguing dish, but it’s also one of the most difficult to eat, people would normally use a snail tongs to extract the meat in a pulling motion from the shell. But here, no special cutlery used to extract the meat, you must suck the meat out! For my first time it worked well. Be warned,Masak Lemak Cili Padi Siput Sedutis cooked with a lot of spices, hence the spiciness level could be overwhelming even for Malaysians but the spices enhance the dish very well, giving it a whole new level of sensory experience.
Udang Masak Hijau is a dish absolutely for prawn lovers. Very light curry, the dish itself is quite mild and lovely. It is a very aromatic dish with freshly prepared prawns, presenting authentic Malay cooking style, which certainly brings out the buffet’s kampung theme.
As a person who is fond of potatoes, there was a dish that sparked my interest because of its dark greyish-green curry-like sauce. At first glance, it seemed intimidating and probably a bit too much to be comprehended however when I tasted the curry sauce, it was a delightful surprise to taste buds – it was sweet, not even a slightest hint of spicy – a pleasant surprise indeed. Not to mention the perfectly tender meat in this dish. Lesson learnt – never get deceived by looks.
“Selera Kampung” buffet has a live cooking station serving roasted lamb, kebabs and Malaysians’ favourite – satays! We all know that peanut sauce plays a very important part when it comes to eating satays – it either makes or breaks the food. And to our delight, LINK’s satay peanut sauce is another surprise of the night – thick textured, well-balanced with generous portion of roasted peanuts – totally adds flavour to the satays served.
“Selera Kampung” buffet serves a handful of pencuci mulut, diners would spot local fruits (including durians!), traditional Malay kuihs (Kuih Seri Muka, anyone?), pastries, Malay-styled pickles and many more at various counters, not to forget a salad bar for all.
Of course, the must-have dates will be present during the buffet throughout the Ramadan month. The dates at LINK are imported from Tunisia – definitely quality ensured!
Before leaving I absolutely had to try the Turkish ice-cream! Traditional Turkish ice-cream, unlike normal ice cream, is thick and chewy with an elastic texture, perfect to be consumed slowly without a fear of it dribbling down the cone. Vendors often tease the customer by serving the ice-cream cone on a stick, and then taking away the ice-cream with the stick by rotating it around, before finally giving it to the customer. It was fun trying to get the ice-cream from the maker. I have to say that at the end I was dizzy trying to get hold of the ice-cream. Not easy at all.
“Selera Kampung” buffet is the result of a 5-month work. Chef Mohd Juzaili Shah and his team worked hard to offer their customers a buffet worthy of the theme. Almost 300 types of dishes will be served during Ramadan month and 90% of the dishes served are authentic local cuisines, living up the kampung theme. And personally, I think they have succeeded in creating the experience from the combination of multiple efforts on food preparation, set up and decoration.
The food was tasty and the service was perfect. The staffs are very attentive and are always around – I didn’t even have to ask them for their attention. Each time when I returned to my table from taking foods from the counters, my table has already been cleaned and my drinking glass was refilled. Every single time. I felt I was treated like a queen.
