We all acknowledge that food matters yet to Thai people, food is even more than that. Eating is a sort of happiness and enjoying food is like having a celebration! You can easily feel their love for food as one of the very first questions they ask each other is “Gin Khao Yung?” which literally means “Have you eaten yet?”.  The next time you see a Thai person, don’t forget to amaze them by using this phrase.

Looking for delectable baked delights while you are in Thailand? You’d better think twice! With the blooming of deep-fried, stir-fried and grilled treats, baked foods are certainly luxuries when you come to this country! You might need to search high and low or even fork out a good amount of money to get your favorite baked foods. However, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do” and you will have an extraordinary experience which you won’t regret!

If you are a discerning beer drinker, you would probably have a slight pain seeing how the people here drink beer! From small eateries to fine-dining restaurants, you will bump into some Thais who are sipping their favorite brews with an abundance of ice! With Thailand’s often brutal heat, this concept of serving beer has become so popular to an extent that it would be… weird if you drink your beer without ice!

4/ Food Is All About Sharing

Did you know dining alone in Thailand is somewhat considered bad luck? The people here prefer to share rather than enjoying the dish themselves! In fact, they like to order the same number of dishes as the number of those who present and share the dishes all together! This practice originated from the belief that everyone should have a chance to taste each dish on the table and it shows how generous and thoughtful the people here are!

5/ Forks Are Never Used To Put Food Into The Mouth!

It might surprise you but Thai people do not really use chopsticks in their dining culture, except for a few noodles dishes. The people here love to use forks and spoons! However, you might need to keep in mind that forks are not used to directly put food into your mouth. Instead, Thai people will use the fork to push food into the spoon and then devour it!

[ELITE Review] 3 Tantalizing Dishes @ Sanoook, Sunway Pyramid

We came to Sanoook on a weekend when my friend and I were indecisive to choose whether to head to a Thai or a Japanese restaurant. As the discussion was going on, my friend recalled Sanoook – a restaurant with dishes representing a love affair of Thai and Japanese cuisine, as she once wanted to go there since its first launch in Sunway Pyramid. Of course, I was more than excited to go!

As we sat down in this cosy and welcoming restaurant, we were thrilled to know the name “Sanoook” is actually inspired by the word “Sanook” which means “fun” in Thai and an “o” is added as an illustration for a circle of friendship. We could not wait to try the dishes here and thus, to share with you our 3 favorites which would be yours too!

As a huge fan of soft-shell crab, we could not resist ourselves to order the Crispy Soft-Shell Crab with Curry Egg Gravy here. Presented nicely in a petal-shaped dish (or like how I imagined it), the pieces of soft-shell crab laying atop chef’s famous curry egg gravy immediately whetted our appetite. Crunchy, light and airy, the crab was such an indulgence for our palate and it mingled just nicely with the delicious gravy.

The second dish that caught us by surprise is this Crispy Duck with Coffee Sauce. This innovative fusion with an exotic combination of duck and coffee totally triggered our curiosity and to be honest, we did not expect much at first. That’s why we were in awe after our first bite into the duck – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside with a sensational note of sweet, savory and acidic taste. Enriched with distinctive flavors and well-balanced in taste, this dish is a unique twist to your classic fare.

Finally, an exquisite and palate-pleasing dish that we would love to come back for more is this Signature Crispy King Prawn with Butter Cheese Sauce. We were overwhelmed with the big portion of the king prawn set unpretentiously yet enough to entice our taste buds. The king prawn had such crispy goodness that reminded us of a delectable tempura. As the prawn was topped with lip-smacking butter cheese sauce, it had such pleasant buttery taste, not-flaky-at-all texture along with characteristic flavors which one cannot forgo.
