The Singaporean chef, after racking up his experience in over 9 cites, has now brought to Malaysia a familiar yet adventurous contemporary Asian dining and outstanding dishes infused with South-East-Asian flavours. The first dish that we would love to try over and over is the Signature Grilled Stuffed Wings! The dish – though appeared in an unpretentious look, totally whetted our palate with its irresistible aroma. The fully-and-skillfully-stuffed chicken wings are served with snake bean and basa genep ‘sauce’ (a delectable Balinese spice paste), laid atop wilted cassava leaves ‘sayur urab’. Took a bite at the de-boned chicken wings and it would be everything you could ask for – crispy skin on the outside and tender, fragrant meat with flavourful stuffing on the inside. [ELITE Review] 3 Delicious Dishes @ Imperial Chakri Palace, KLCC

It was quite a while since we treated ourselves to sumptuous Thai food so we decided it was the time for us to explore. As recommended by our friend, we chose Imperial Chakri Palace as our stop this time to indulge ourselves in, like how our friend described, “exquisite service and super authentic Thai cuisine”. Of course, after knowing this restaurant is awarded as one of the Malaysia’s Finest Restaurants by Malaysia Tatler, we had even a stronger reason to come here! There are a plethora of dishes to choose from but we will focus on 3 dishes that won our hearts and we believe you should not miss out! 

 

1/ Chakri Tom Yam (King Prawn)

We couldn’t wait to start our meal with the restaurant’s Chakri Tom Yam as it was awarded the “Best Soup” during The Malaysia International Gourmet Festival in 2013! We were amazed by the big portion of the king prawn when the bowl was presented. Thanks to the king prawn’s freshness, the soup had such a delicate taste yet filled with flavors as it was infused with lemongrass, lime and chili peppers. As someone who is a big fan of Thai food, I would say this is one of my go-to places to savor an authentic and flavorful bowl of Tom Yam!

Another dish that tempted our palate is this Deep-Fried Sea Bass with Phad Cha Sauce. The whole sea bass was presented with a bowl of mouth-watering phad cha sauce (sizzling stir-fried herbs sauce). The fresh sea bass was meticulously prepared and deep-fried until it was on point. It had such meaty and crispy texture which totally satiated our taste buds and mingled well with the phad cha sauce (or pad cha sauce) that came along.

Another must-have dish that you should keep an eye on is this Australian Lobster with Thai Sweet & Spicy Sauce. The dish caught our attention immediately as the whole lobster (600gm – 800gm) was beautifully set with an elegant and eye-pleasing decoration. This air-flown fresh lobster from Australia had such a firm and buttery taste that made it a perfect companion to the restaurant’s signature sweet and spicy sam rod sauce (three-flavored sauce).

We were completely melted when we first have a bite into this Braised Beef Cheeks which is made of premium Wagyu beef coated in red wine and served with classic Polenta Taragna. The beef cheeks had a melt-in-the-mouth texture that hardly any of us can resist the temptation. Marinated overnight, the Wagyu beef was cooked over the course of 5 hours until it was fork-tender. We were also impressed with the classic Polenta Taragna as it was made from scratch using house-made chicken stock and shaved Parmesan cheese. Such a luscious delight!

The pork-free dim sum combination features 3 pieces of classic Shanghai soup dumpling “Xiao Long Bao”, 3 pieces of Signature Prawn and Chicken Siew Mai and 3 pieces of Premium Emerald Har Kao with Water Chestnut. The “Xiao Long Bao” was my favorite as they were so well-balanced in flavors that each bite resulted in an exquisite satisfaction. Next comes a sophisticated dish that we all felt in love with – the Peking Duck. The duck was meticulously prepared as it was hollowed out to stuff with fine Chinese herbs before being rinsed with hot water and dried for 4 hours! As the duck was roasted on point, its fat was melted and the skin was incredibly crispy! Wrapped inside Mandarin pancake with a touch of hoi sin sauce, the Peking Duck was totally a winner in terms of taste. We were pleased to know that diners can choose the preferred serving method for the rest of the duck meat.

We were in awe to know the fish were air-flown all the way from Hokkaido, Japan to the restaurant. In the blink of an eye, the teppanyaki chef masterfully handled 7 types of seasonal sashimi skillfully Our three favorite sashimi of the day are Amaebi prawns, scallop and salmon! The amaebi prawns captured our hearts with its buttery, creamy texture and the melt-in-the-mouth feeling. The scallop was so soft and smooth like velvet that we would eat it over and over again. And the salmon was titillating with its subtle sweet and refreshing taste which equaled to no other fish.

It’s hard to resist ordering some authentic cold cuts first to whet our palate. What’s better than trying chef’s selection of four types of cold cuts that took months to cure? Not to mention this pork-free Italian cold cuts for 2 also feature 3 kinds of delectable cheese (one type of hard cheese and two types of medium-hard cheese) and beautifully garnished with a few homemade sun-dried tomatoes and olive on top. Another dish that we would highly recommend you is the gorgeous Angel Hair With Sardinian Bottarga. The traditional aglio olio easily won our hearts for its fresh-to-the-bite tiger prawns which are carefully handpicked and the flavorful, delectable bottarga – salted fish roes, which mingle perfectly with the angel hair pasta. If you have a knack for spicy food, you would love the addition of the red chilies which impart mild spiciness that nicely accentuates the flavors of the dish.

3/ Slow and Low

The last dish – Slow and Low, caught us by surprise. As lamb shank is a dish that requires considerable skills to bring out the best of its taste, we were quite amazed to see how excellently this classic Italian ossobuco (special Lombard cuisine braised with vegetable, white wine and broth) is cooked here! As suggested by its name, the lamb shank is slowly braised for hours until it has a melt-in-the-mouth texture before being put on top of creamy polenta. This Slow and Low is absolutely our favorite dish of the day and of course, you should also give it a try!
